Hi All,
So I had a class call Fairytales and Oral Traditions it was an interesting class where we learned all about the old folk tales. For our final project we had to create a representation of a fairytale that had to do with our major. Well I love the Sandman (thanks to Sandy Mansnoozie from Rise Of The Guardians) so I wanted to learn the history of the Sandman tale.
IT IS CREEPY!!!!!
I do not recommend reading it to a child under the age of 12. A brief idea of what the original story is about is as follows: A bird like creature throws sands in your eyes and waits for you to have a nightmare, if you do have a nightmare and wake up from your sleep he steals your eyes and takes them back to the moon where he feeds them to his bird like children (that is the actual story and yes I recommend rereading that sentence). Well as time progressed we altered the story and made him more of a lovable character who wrapped you in dream sand to prevent you from having nightmares given to you by the Boogie Man.
That is the tale I focused on for my final project. I decided to create a representation of being wrapped in dream sand, but I needed a visual way to show that. So the birth of my picture was born!
It was such a fun shoot I used a friend of mine as my model. I wrapped her whole head in yellow yarn to give the texture and feel of sand (I got dizzy, she got dizzy, but we didn't fall down). We then placed all of the Polaroid on the string to signify all the dreams that you get while you sleep.
Truly this is one of my most treasured photos because although I only got one shot, this was the EXACT shot that I had in my head. To me this is perfect! So go look at the full image and see how magical the Sandman really is. (also go watch Rise of The Guardians)
